The Rev. Moisés Quezada Mota, the Bishop Coadjutor-elect of the Diocese of the Dominican Republic, wrote this sketch of his life and career in the Episcopal Church. His original Spanish is below this English translation.
Bishop Coadjutor-elect Quezada
He studied theology at the Centro de Estudios Teológicos (Center for Theological Studies) in Santo Domingo. He served pastoral internships in a clinic in Puerto Rico and in a crisis intervention center in Santo Domingo. He also completed Anglican studies at at Codrington College in Barbados. He has completed several theological workshops both at home and in the United States.
He was ordained as a deacon on August 15, 1982, and as a priest on May 22, 1983.
Fr. Quezada has served the Diocese of the Dominican Republic in various missions and institutions. From 1983-1988 he was Vicar and Rector of Iglesia Episcopal San Esteban (St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church) and Colegio Episcopal San Esteban (St. Stephen’s Episcopal School); Vicar and Rector of Iglesia Episcopal Santa Cruz (Holy Cross Episcopal Church) and Colegio Episcopal Santa Cruz (Holy Cross Episcopal School); Director of the University Circle; and Chaplain of the Convent of the Transfiguration, all in the city of San Pedro de Macorís. From 1988-1998 he was Vicar of Iglesia Episcopal Todos los Santos (All Saints Episcopal Church) and Rector of Colegio Episcopal Todos los Santos (All Saints Episcopal School). He founded Iglesia Episcopal La Encarnación [The Episcopal Church of the Incarnation] and other communities. [He was in charge of all Episcopal activities] in the city of La Romana.
From 1998-2007 he was Vicar of Iglesia Episcopal San Andrés (St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church) and Colegio Episcopal San Andrés (St. Andrew’s Episcopal School) and Vicar of Iglesia Episcopal San Pedro y San Pablo (Sts. Peter and Paul Episcopal Church). Then from 2008 to 2013 [he was the] Vicar of Iglesia Episcopal Santísima Trinidad (Holy Trinity Episcopal Church) and Iglesia Episcopal Santa Ana (St. Anne’s Episcopal Church), Santo Domingo. He is currently the Vicar of Iglesia Episcopal Jesús Nazareno (Episcopal Church of Jesus the Nazarene) and Rector of Colegio Episcopal Jesús Nazareno (Episcopal School of Jesus the Nazarene), and Vicar and Rector of Albergue Buen Samaritano (Good Samaritan Children’s Home) in San Francisco de Macoris. He has also served as Archdeacon of the Eastern Region and the Central Region [of the Episcopal Diocese of the Dominican Republic].
From 2002 to 2007 he was Coordinator and Secretary of the House of Bishops of Province IX. He has belonged to different organizations and committees in the Church in the Dominican Republic and in Province IX.
During his ministry he has had a radio program, ¨An Appointment with the Lord,¨ and the Reflection Television Program. For several years he edited the diocesan ¨Christian Renewal” magazine, and has written articles in magazines and newspapers. He was one of the authors of the Christian education handbook, published by the Episcopal Church and titled Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Theology of Confirmation and Catechesis. [The editor of that compilation was] Sharon Ely Pearson, [and the publisher was] Morehouse Publishing. He has conducted retreats and courses in El Salvador, Ecuador, Cuba and the Dominican Republic.
In academia he has taught the program for Permanent Deacons and Laity. For about 20 years he has taught Anglicanism, Theology, Pastoral Theology and Spirituality at the Centro de Estudios Teológicos (Center for Theological Studies) in Santo Domingo. He has written manuals of theology, and currently is planning to write two books on ministry and theology.
RESEÑA BIOGRAFICA DEL PADRE MOISES QUEZADA MOTA
El Padre Moisés Quezada Mota nació en la ciudad de La Romana, República Dominicana, el 3 de Diciembre de 1956. Está casado con la Sra., Mary Jeannette Pringle de Quezada y tiene dos hijos Moisés Elías Quezada Pringle (30) y Mercedes Alejandrina Quezada Pringle (26). Desde muy temprana edad se envolvió en las actividades de la Iglesia Episcopal San Esteban, en la ciudad de San Pedro de Macorís donde pasó su niñez. Luego se destaco como líder y ministro Laico de la Iglesia Todos Los Santos en su ciudad natal. En la misma tuvo una gran participación en las actividades comunitarias.
Estudio teología en el Centro de Estudio Teológico, en Santo Domingo. Hizo su Clínico pastoral en Puerto Rico e intervención en crisis en Santo Domingo. También estudio Anglicanismo en Codrington College, en Barbado. Ha realizado varias investigaciones teológicas tanto en el país como en Estados Unidos.
Fue ordenado como Diacono el 15 de Agosto de 1982 y como Presbítero el 22 de Mayo de 1983.
El Padre Quezada ha servido en la Diócesis de la República Dominicana en distintas misiones e instituciones. De 1983-1988 fue vicario la Iglesia y Rector del Colegio San Estaban; Vicario y Rector del Colegio Santa Cruz, Director del Circulo Universitario, Capellán del Convento de la Transfiguración, en la ciudad de San Pedro de Macorís. Del 1988-1989 fue vicario de la iglesia y Rector del Colegio Todos Los Santos. Inicio la Misión de la Encarnación y otras comunidades. Todo en la ciudad de La Romana. Del 1998-2007 fue Vicario de la Iglesia y del Colegio San Andrés, vicario de San Pedro y San Pablo; pasa luego del 2008 al 2013 a ser Vicario de la Iglesia Santísima Trinidad y de la Iglesia Santa Ana, en Santo Domingo. Actualmente es Vicario de la Iglesia y del Colegio Jesús Nazareno, y Vicario y Rector del Albergue Infantil el Buen Samaritano en San Francisco de Macorís. También se ha desempeñado como Arcediano de la Región Oriental y de la Región Centro.
Del 2002 al 2007 fue Coordinador de la IX Provincia y Secretario de la Cámara de Obispo. Ha pertenecido a distintos organismos y comités en la Iglesia en República Dominicana y la Novena Provincia.
Durante su ministerio ha tenido el Programa de Radio ¨Una Cita con el Señor¨ y de Televisión el Programa ¨Reflexión”. Por varios años dirigió la revista Diocesana ¨Renovación Cristiana¨ Ha escrito artículos en revistas y periódicos. Fue uno de los autores de del Manual de Educación Cristiana, publicado por la Iglesia Episcopal y del libro ¨Signed, Sealed, delivered: Theologie of Confirmation and Catechesis:¨ Editor of Compilation Sharon Ely Pearson. Morehouse Publishing.
En el ámbito académico ha sido profesor del programa para Diáconos Permanentes y de Laicos. Durante aproximadamente 20 años ha impartido clase de Anglicanismo, Teología, \Teología Pastoral y Espiritualidad, en el Centro de Estudios Teológicos, en Santo Domingo. Ha escritos manuales de teología y tiene actualmente en proyecto escribir dos libros sobre el ministerio y sobre teología.
